More then 50 years practicing law
Our firm began as a solo practice in Hazard, Kentucky in the 1940's when its founder, Alva A. Hollon, Sr. opened his law practice in the mountains of Eastern Kentucky. In his early practice, Alva A. Hollon, Sr. concentrated on insurance defense work, workers' compensation practice and criminal defense work.
In 1966, Mr. Hollon's son, Leon L. Hollon, joined his practice and the firm of Hollon & Hollon was conceived. In 1974, Alva A. Hollon, Jr. joined the firm, and the firm rapidly developed an extensive administrative practice in Social Security disability law and federal and state black lung and workers compensation practice. Leon L. Hollon's practice branched in the 1970's to the area of mineral and corporate law, providing service to a number of publicly held and privately owned coal companies in the Kentucky coal fields.
In the early 1980's Alva A. Hollon, Jr. became Commonwealth Attorney for Perry County and was responsible for the prosecution of criminal cases the Perry Circuit Court. In 1982, Paul R. Collins and Nancy M. Collins became associated with the firm and later became partners in the practice. Since their arrival at the firm, Paul R. Collins has concentrated his practice in the areas of commercial and corporate law, banking, municipal law and litigation, while Nancy M. Collins has developed a personal injury practice in products liability, medical malpractice and automobile accident cases while also maintaining an extensive practice in domestic relations and family law as well as general civil practice.
Leon L. Hollon was elected in 1989 to the position of President of Peoples Bank & Trust Company of Hazard, a full-time post from which he recently retired. He remains “Of counsel” to the firm. Alva A. Hollon, Jr. departed in 1994 to concentrate his practice in the handling of FELA cases with another firm based in the state of Florida. Alva A. Hollon, Sr. continued to practice actively with the firm until the mid-1990's, serving as District Court Trial Commissioner for Perry County.
